Idris Muhammad - Peace And Rhythm

Second studio album by the american jazz drummer, Idris Muhammad featuring Ron Carter, Kenny Baron, Melvin Sparks, Clarence ThomasVirgil Jones. Idris Muhammad started as Leo Morris (his name before his conversion to Islam) with Fats Domino in 1956, later in the sixties, was session musician for various Blue Note recordings and for CTI in the seventies. Idris is best known as sideman for saxophonist Lou Donaldson from 1965 to 1971, collaborating to several of his albums such as the famous Alligator Bogaloo released in 1967. He played with a considerable number of Jazz legends, inter alia, Pharoah Sanders, Reuben Wilson, Lonnie Smith and more recently Ahmad Jamal. Titles include the Peace & Rhythm SuiteBrother You Know You're Doing Wrong written by his wife, Sakinah, and the funky hit song by Wilson Pickett, Don't Knock My Love. All tracks arranged by Clarence Thomas.

Melvin Sparks - Sparks !

Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd - Your Best Pops 12

Toshiyuki Miyama, one of the greatest japanese jazz saxophonist, arranger & conductor, made his first steps during the fifties in some US military clubs. Toshiyuki has recorded over 70 albums, composed & produced several music materials for radio, cinema & television. In 1958, he formed his first "New Herd", one of the most preeminent Big Band in the Japan Jazz history which gained international recognition with the Sharps & Flats led by Nobuo Hara. The New Herd has otherwise counted in its ranks another great pianist and arranger in the person of Norio Maeda. Among his feats, The New Herd has supported Charlie Mingus on Charles Mingus With Orchestra album (1971), performed itself in concert for Thelonius Monk (Thelonius Monk In Tokyo - 1970) and Nancy Wilson in 1974. Toshiyuki Miyama present us a cover album taking the greatest hits of international Pop Music including famous songs from The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Marie Laforêt, the Zombies or The Doors. For her fifteenth album, Kimiko recruits Herbie Hancock and his Jazz Funk band, the Headhunters. The band is formed by Paul Jackson, Alphonse Mouzon, Bill Summers and Benny Maupin plus the adding of Webster Lewis. Titles include six tracks composed by Herbie Hancock, two extract from Sunlight album released in 1977 (I Thought It Was You & Sunlight), Tell Me A Bedtime Story (from  Fat Albert Rotunda - 1969) and his classic Maiden Voyage (Jazz Standard). The vocoder, popularized by the german band Kraftwerk, is prevalent on this album that Herbie uses first once in 1977, as evidenced Stevie Wonder' As, I Thought It Was You & Sunlight. All tracks produced, mixed and recorded by David Robinson & Herbie Hancock at CBS studio in Tokyo.
